Mental Health Social Marketing Campaign- IAPT NHS

Around one person in four will experience mental illness at some point in their life and at any one time one person in six has a mental health problems.  Mental health problems cost the country an estimated £77billion a year in health care, benefits and lost productivity.  To address these issues Perfect Circle has worked alongside NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale to help launch their (IAPT) Improve Access to Psychological Therapies programme, as part of a Government initiative to treat 900,000 more patients who suffer from depression and anxiety over the next three years.

This service will be provided by Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Community Healthcare which will deliver a system of stepped care by high and low intensity therapists, focusing initially
on working age adults.  High intensity therapists will primarily deliver face to face sessions of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to treat depression and anxiety. Low intensity therapists will build on the work currently being provided by the primary mental health team, delivering interventions including guided self-help and brief face to face sessions.  The IAPT programme will also promote social inclusion by supporting employment retention and return to work. 

Following the social marketing benchmarking criteria Perfect Circle will launched the NHS IAPT campaign in Jan 2010 to raise awareness of depression and anxiety amongst the general public, linking causes to the economic downturn.  The campaign will promote the National Credit Crunch Stressline, raise awareness of the service amongst clinicians and GP’s to encourage referrals and raise the profile of the therapists in the community.
