Rochdale Creates Chooses Perfect Circle to Build Its New Culture & Placemaking Directory Website

In the first of our three-part series, we’re excited to share how our partnership with Rochdale Creates began.
The team at Rochdale Creates had a bold idea: to create an online home for the borough’s creative community. They wanted a place where artists, makers, performers and cultural groups could connect, collaborate and be discovered.
Rochdale has always had a culture of creativity at its core. From its rich music heritage, shaped by legendary venues and local talent, to its thriving art and theatre scene, creativity runs through the borough’s story. The challenge was to capture that energy in one vibrant online space that feels truly local.
Perfect Circle brought strategic design, digital development and deep cultural understanding to this Directory website project. Our role spanned stakeholder engagement, content design, copywriting, UX and technical build – all focused on strengthening cultural visibility and collaboration. Our team translated Rochdale Creates’ vision into a user-content generated platform that feels local, authentic and inspiring.
Built on world leading CMS technology, the platform gives the Rochdale Creates team full control to manage and update content, while allowing users to submit and grow listings organically. By Utilising our website design and development experience in culture and placemaking with technical expertise, we ensured the directory would become a place where the arts and creative community meet in a way that feels genuinely Rochdale.
Building something that connects people
Our goal was to design a culture and placemaking directory website that leads on the latest UI design, providing a UX that is authentic, welcoming and easy to use. Working closely with the Rochdale Creates team, we built a space where:
- Creatives can join and share their work
- Residents and visitors can discover local talent
- Cultural organisations can showcase venues and events
- The community can grow together over time
- Promote Rochdale town with a rich creative sector
It is more than a directory website. It is a living space for local businesses, where the arts, culture and community come together to celebrate Rochdale’s unique cultural identity.
Looking ahead
The Rochdale Creates Directory officially launches in September 2024. It will play a key role in promoting the borough’s creative culture land supporting its journey as Greater Manchester’s Town of Culture 2025/26.
